The wait is over, the Dallas Cowboys are getting ready to kick-off their 2019 season this Sunday.
It feels like this year’s version of America’s Team is one of the best in a long time. They have elite talent on both sides of the ball and more depth than we’ve seen in years; this could be the deepest run for the Cowboys since before the turn of the century.
Here are 10 bold 2019 Dallas Cowboys Predictions:
Cowboys Will Win NFC East
OK, so this might not be a bold prediction, but it sure feels like many “experts” are picking the Eagles to win the division instead of the Cowboys. While it feels like a two horse race, the Eagles no longer have a safety net if Carson Wentz gets hurt. The Cowboys have the feel of a team who has put it all together this off-season. Final record will be 11-5.
Ezekiel Elliott will win the rushing title, again
Again, not an entirely crazy prediction, but after missing all of camp and perhaps it’ll be a slow start to the season, Elliott will still run away with the title. He’ll have less carries than last year, but be more effective than he was in 2018. Think 1,500 yards and 14 scores.
Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup both surpass 1,000 yards receiving, Gallup will have more TD’s
The Cowboys will have more variance and less predictability in the offense, so expect some easier throws for Dak Prescott. I think Gallup has more touchdowns due to his deep ball prowess and they’ll connect on more those long passes they just missed on last year.
Jason Witten will return as if he never left
Not much fanfare has been made of Witten’s return, perhaps many don’t believe he’ll be able to play at a high level anymore? However, in fewer snaps than he’s used to, expect the same old Jason Witten, he’ll have over 50 catches, 500+ yards and he’ll have five scores to tie him with Dez Bryant on top of the all-time receiving touchdown list. That tie won’t be broken for years to come!
Dak Prescott will be an MVP candidate
This doesn’t mean he’ll win it, but he’ll be somewhere in the conversation as we enter December. Prescott is betting on himself after not getting a new deal and his off-season work with Jon Kitna will pay off. Prescott will throw for over 4,000 yards for the first time in his career, have over 35 total scores and keep his interceptions under 10.
DeMarcus Lawrence will add his third consecutive 10+ sack season
Tank didn’t play in the preseason because of shoulder surgery, but he’ll be the same ‘war daddy’ he’s been the past few years. Let’s guess 13.5 sacks on the year.
Robert Quinn gets 10 too
Quinn was a major addition to the pass rush and he’ll get 10 sacks to bookend Lawrence. They’ll be the first double-digit sack duo for Dallas since 2007 when DeMarcus Ware (14) and Greg Ellis (12.5) accomplished the feat.
Cowboys will double their interceptions from 2018
The defense had nine picks in 2018, but they should double that total in year two under Kris Richard.
Xavier Woods makes the Pro Bowl
The Cowboys passed on all the expensive safety options this off-season in part because they love Woods’ potential. He’ll reward them with a Pro Bowl year.
The Cowboys will be in the Super Bowl
Last season, I felt the Cowboys were on their way back up and would make the NFC Championship game. When it gets down to the last four teams, the margin is razor thin and hard to say if a team can win it all. The Cowboys finished just short of that prediction. This year, I’m willing to go even further and say the Cowboys will be in the Super Bowl, against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Do they win it? You bet your butt they do! The Cowboys always love to beat Andy Reid in meaningful games, and they’ll hoist their sixth Super Bowl trophy!
